As noted by the tutorial, this move does drain Resolve as you use it. To do this, hold L1 and your horse will charge at high speed, allowing it to plough through and kill any enemy you run into. You'll then hear the cry of Mongols, and Jin asks his horse to use the Horse Charge Technique. You'll soon find him at the base of the cliff on your right, hiding but still frightened. ![]() ![]() However, if we change C 6H 12O 6, the coefficients for everything else on the left-hand side will also have to change, because we will be changing the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms. Now, we have two options to even out the right-hand side: We can either multiply C 6H 12O 6 or O 2 by a coefficient. On the right, there are eight oxygen molecules. There are a total of 18 oxygen molecules on the left (6×2 + 6×1). So, we will add a coefficient of six on the hydrogen-containing molecule on the left. There are two hydrogen atoms on the left and twelve on the right. So, we add a coefficient of six to the carbon-containing molecule on the left. There is only one atom of carbon on the left-hand side, but six on the right-hand side. Here, both carbon and hydrogen fit this requirement. ![]() The first step to balancing chemical equations is to focus on elements that only appear once on each side of the equation. This gives us the final balanced equation ofĮxplore Balancing Chemical Equations on Albert Complete Solutions: 1. On the right, we have 16 as well (four per molecule, with four molecules). ![]() On the left, we have ten atoms of oxygen from P 4O 10 and six from H 2O for a total of 16. So, to balance those out, we have to put a six in front of H 2O on the left.Īt this point, we can check the oxygens to see if they balance. So, there are two molecules of hydrogen on the left-hand side and twelve on the right-hand side (notice that there are three per molecule of H 3PO 4, and we have four molecules). It is easiest to start with molecules that only appear once on each side. We still want to avoid balancing oxygen, because it occurs in more than one molecule on the left-hand side. So, we can put the coefficient of 4 on the molecule that has phosphorous on the right-hand side to balance them out. There are four atoms of phosphorus on the left-hand side, but only one on the right-hand side. ![]() We could either start with phosphorus or hydrogen, so let’s start with phosphorus. Notice that oxygen occurs twice on the left-hand side, so that is not a good element to start out with. Let’s illustrate this with an example by balancing this chemical equation:įirst, let’s look at the element that appears least often. In the end, make sure to count the number of atoms of each element on each side again, just to be sure.Įxplore Balancing Chemical Equations on Albert Example of Balancing a Chemical Equation Then, move on to the atom that shows up the second least number of times, and so on. It is best to start with the atom that shows up the least number of times on one side, and balance that first. We can break the house apart and build an airplane, but the color and shape of the actual blocks do not change.īut how do we go about balancing these equations? We know that the number of atoms of each element needs to be the same on both sides of the equation, so it is just a matter of finding the correct coefficients (numbers in front of each molecule) to make that happen. An easy way to understand this is to picture a house made of blocks. This means that chemical reactions do not change the actual building blocks of matter rather, they just change the arrangement of the blocks. So, if we start with ten atoms of oxygen before a reaction, we need to end up with ten atoms of oxygen after a reaction. This stems from the universal law of the conservation of mass, which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. The study of the numerical relationships between the reactants and the products in balanced chemical reactions is called stoichiometry. The ultimate goal for balancing chemical equations is to make both sides of the reaction, the reactants and the products, equal in the number of atoms per element. We can use these ratios to determine what amount of a substance, in moles, will react with or produce a given number of moles of a different substance. ![]() ![]() ![]() I read theses and dissertations for a living and was pleased that APA, along with the Chicago Style Guide, recommended the use of only one space after a period. WHY did you return to the typewriter way of doing things? Two spaces after a period does NOT improve readability it creates rivers of white space that are most annoying. I love you, fellow middle-aged folks, but it’s time we all join the modern age and spend just a little less time leaning on the space bar.Īctually, a period and one space visually denote the end of the sentence. It wasn’t until 1999, when I got a copyediting job with the New England Journal of Medicine, that I learned the “new” rule. I know I did: I remember sitting in a computer lab in 1998, going through my students’ papers, marking all the places where they needed to add an extra space after the period. And until you unlearn it, you’ll probably force this funky old rule on your own students. We got our papers marked wrong if we didn’t. Slate‘s Farhad Manjoo went so far as to say that it is totally, completely, utterly, and inarguably wrong.īut these articles are not reaching everyone, probably because for many of us who learned to type before computers, it was hammered into our heads over and over and OVER again to use two spaces. If you do even a little bit of research on this topic, you’ll find plenty of articles practically begging you to stop using two spaces. That’s why a proportional font can squeeze 12 letters into the same space where a monospace font can only fit nine: Word processors and computers and everything that is not a very old typewriter use mostly proportionally spaced fonts, which adjust spacing to the size of the letter. ![]() We needed that extra space between sentences to make it easier to see the beginning of new sentences. This is called monospaced typesetting and it’s, well, spacey. That meant the letter i was given the same amount of space as the letter m, even though it clearly didn’t need it. Here’s why: Back when we used typewriters, every character was given the exact same amount of space on the page. Unless you are typing on an actual typewriter, you no longer have to put two spaces after a period. My semester of typing remains one of the most valuable classes I ever took in high school - I can still dazzle small children with my ability to make words appear on a screen by just hysterically wiggling my fingers on the keyboard.īut one rule from typing class has definitely expired, and if you’re over 40, it’s possible that no one has given you the message. We had those, but they had big, actually floppy disks and honest to God, no one had any idea what to do with them. I learned to type in 1987 on an IBM Selectric typewriter. We can use the 8 input switches to encode 2 BCD numbers of 4 bits each. We will be designing for the Basys 2 FPGA board which has 8 input switches. We will consider two algorithms to perform the conversion, the first being a direct arithmetic approach, and the second an iterative algorithm using a finite state machine with data path (FSMD). I chose to detail this direction of conversion as binary to BCD conversion circuits are easily be found by a quick web search. We will focus on designing a conversion circuit that converts a BCD formatted number to to a binary formatted number. The BCD format is common in electronic systems where numeric digits are displayed, as well as in systems where the rounding and conversion errors introduced by binary floating point representation and arithmetic are undesirable. ![]() For example, 42 is represented in BCD format by the binary representations of 4 and 2, as shown above.

Because it moves, it requires more frequent maintenance than the stationary type. You can position them at the edge or near a path and not worry about watering passersby. They usually come in 45- and 360-degree angles. So, they’re great for irregular blocks, rocky soils, and garden beds. Rotating pop up sprinklers have a more consistent stream of water and less run-off. They are ideal for small gardens or small commercial spaces. You can position them approximately 5.5m apart for maximum effect. The scope of stationary pop up sprinklers reaches up to 4.5m, and the mist can go from 90, 180, to 360 degrees. Pop up sprinkler heads can be stationary or rotating. They are also not obstructive when you’re mowing your lawn or when kids are running. They automatically retract and hide underground after watering, so if you prefer to keep your garden aesthetic that way, pop up sprinkler heads should be your top choice. Pop up sprinkler heads are hidden underground and then appear to water your garden. Because they spray fine mist, wind can blow them easily and reduce efficiency in watering your lawn. Your only enemy with spray sprinkler heads is windy days. You can position it near a path and not worry about getting people wet. Their scope ranges from 40, 90, 180, 210, to 360 degrees. They usually come with an operating pressure of 20 to 30 PSI. Water in fixed spray sprinkler heads is sprayed from one point and fans out in thin streams that usually reach a distance of 1 to 4.5m. They serve as both mirrors, reflecting our innermost thoughts and emotions, and windows, offering glimpses into the vast expanse of human experience and the eternal dance of yin and yang. While the I Ching’s hexagrams might seem cryptic at first glance, with time and reflection, they unravel layers of wisdom. The changing lines of the hexagram, the transition from yin to yang or vice versa, offer insights into the evolving dynamics of a situation and the best course of action to take. On the other hand, hexagram 54, known as the “Marrying Maiden,” combines the trigrams of thunder and lake, indicating a situation where adjustments and adaptations are necessary.įurthermore, the hexagram indicates more than just the situation it provides guidance on how to navigate it. Composed of two trigrams representing wind and earth, it advises contemplation, suggesting a time to observe and reflect. The upper and lower trigrams play off each other, their energies interacting to convey a message or scenario.įor example, consider the hexagram 20. When two trigrams come together to form a hexagram, they create a unique scenario or advice. For instance, one trigram might symbolise heaven, while another embodies water. Each trigram represents a fundamental force or element in nature. The trigram holds a special place in the I Ching. These configurations, whether it’s the pure yang energy of hexagram 1 or the transitional state of hexagram 64, encapsulate the essence of life’s diverse situations. This means that every hexagram is composed of six lines, either in the form of yin, yang, or a combination of both. Each trigram is a trio of lines, either representing yin (broken) or yang (unbroken). These symbols, central to the I Ching’s divinatory practices, have been the cornerstone of Chinese cosmology and philosophy for millennia.Īt its most elemental, a hexagram in the I Ching is a figure formed by the stacking of two trigrams. When embarking on the journey of understanding the I Ching, one is inevitably introduced to its foundational elements: the hexagrams. As we stand on the precipice of an era where ancient wisdom intertwines with modern technology, tools like the I Ching app make this age-old oracle accessible, ushering in a renaissance of spiritual exploration and self-improvement. It offers insights into personal growth, relationships, and even global events, connecting us with the ways of the people from ancient China and their understanding of the universe’s ebb and flow. In today’s digital age, while we’ve made great progress in many fields, the timeless wisdom of the I Ching remains relevant. From the very first hexagram, which symbolises the pure energy of creation, to hexagram 64, which embodies the culmination of a journey and the cusp of a new beginning, the I Ching offers a panoramic view of life’s myriad situations and challenges. With every hexagram, there lies a story, a lesson, a piece of advice, or a reflection of the current state of things. They serve as a compass, helping us tread through the chaos of the past and present, guiding us towards a harmonious future. These hexagrams aren’t just static symbols they’re a coded language, a bridge that connects our everyday experiences with the grand cosmic dance of heaven and earth. Each hexagram is a unique configuration of six lines, either broken (yin) or unbroken (yang), representing the dynamic interplay of the fundamental forces of the universe: yin and yang. At the heart of the I Ching lies the intricate and profound system of 64 hexagrams.
